A wild, historical live theater experience with America's first heroes!
The Swamp Fox, Francis Marion, leads a small, fierce band of American heroes of the American War for Independence from South Carolina revealing secrets and adventures in the war, in "Lowcountry Revolutionaries! America's First Freedom Fighters." With songs and percussion, the show sports eight of our first brave veterans telling amazing tales. Thrills fill this new play about the great perils of separating from the tyranny of the British and the clever ways South Carolina patriots fought to win final victory. The stories range from passionate efforts of Lt. Colonel John Laurens to end slavery before the end of war, Catawba soldier Peter Harris fighting Germans in the Battle of Stono River and African American marine, John Featherston’s narrow escape during cannon fire from a British galleon in the first battle in our harbor in 1775. Charleston’s Rebecca Motte tells how she hid her daughters from British officers when her home on King street was occupied and The Swamp Fox re-lives the heart-wrenching tragedy of local hero, Isaac Hayne, hung by the British. Great for visitors & locals alike! Percussion designed and performed by Tracy Bush of Taiko Charleston.
